At the heart of our eco-frame houses is a timber frame. This is a century-old English wood joinery technique, that was developed to build houses without nails.
We use it to create open spaces with or without trusses. Since the frame is visible inside, it becomes a beautiful feature, but you decide, how much or little you want to incorporate it into your home.
The frame is the main load-bearing structure of an Ecoframe house and the first thing to go up after the foundation.
Later walls, roofs, windows, etc. are added. The frame stays visible, also inside, after the house is finished.
Created and pre-tested in the workshop.
Typical house frames, raised in a single day.
These can be used to create simple open spaces.
Large open living areas, or terraces, for example.
With different joints and trusses, surface finish and color treatment, a very wide variety of styles can be accomplished.
Using a timber frame on a normal flat roof is a very beautiful way of creating a larger open space.
Remember, the amount and spans of the beams can usually be adjusted to taste, as the beams are so big they will easily fulfill their function.
Timber framing has many different joints and truss styles. Large open spaces can also be created in a more traditional style.
This particular one is called a collar truss.
Timber frame design is one of the first topics during the initial design meetings.
